Last week to apply for the Law Society Diversity Access Scheme

Applications for the Law Society Diversity Access Scheme, which offers financial assistance for the Legal Practice Course, close this Friday 28 March 2014. The application form, full information about the criteria for the scheme, process and timetable can be found on the Junior Lawyers Division website.

The Diversity Access Scheme (DAS) offers assistance with Legal Practice Course (LPC) fees to exceptional individuals who face or have overcome exceptional obstacles to qualify as a solicitor. Obstacles may be of a financial, social, educational or personal nature, or might relate to a disability or chronic health condition that makes the goal of qualifying as a solicitor a particularly challenging one.

The scheme also provides successful applicants with work experience and mentoring opportunities. Information about those previously helped by the scheme, including a short video, can be found on the Diversity Access Scheme page.

Still time to apply for a Vacation Scheme 2014

It is not too late to apply for a Vacation Scheme for Summer 2014. There is a long list of law firms on Law Careers.net http://www.lawcareers.net/Solicitors/WorkPlacementDeadlines with closing dates of either 31 March 2014 or even 28 April 2014 and beyond.

Firms in the North West with schemes open until 31 March include DWF, Cartmell Shepherd and Berg.

Why apply?

The answer is simple. More firms than ever before are using their Vac schemes as part of the interview process for that elusive training contract. This means that if you perform well during your work placement you are likely to be considered for a training contract.

It is a highly competitive process to get a work placement at a firm but well worth the effort of applying. These placements are available to second and third year Law undergraduates as well as final year students from other disciplines and other graduates considering Law as a career.

You get paid, too, so don't miss out. Get your applications started today! If you need any help with answering those tricky questions come to a drop-in in the Careers and Employability Centre or email your draft answers to careers@chester.ac.uk
