Graduate Head Start

 

Are you a recent University of Chester graduate not yet in a graduate job?

Are you looking for ways to make yourself more employable?

 

Then why not enhance your careers opportunities with our free Graduate Head Start (GHS) programme?

GHS is a unique and innovative three-day programme which been designed to support Chester graduates who are yet to find employment or who are not fulfilling their career ambitions.

 

What’s in it for you? 

·       Career Planning Day One - manage your career progression, analyse your skills, values and experience, learn how to complete successful applications and how to successfully prepare for interviews.

·       Career Planning Day Two - discover more about yourself, what type of learner you are and an opportunity to gain 20 credits at Masters level by completing the associated assessment.

·       Career Planning Day Three - learn about personal branding, effective networking and hear an employer’s perspective on what makes a successful graduate applicant.  Undertake a mock interview with constructive feedback being given.

·       A five-week work placement - undertake a developmental project, gain valuable experience and give your CV the competitive edge

·       Careers coaching from a Career Consultant - receive support with career planning including CVs, applications and mock interviews for specific job roles.

·       ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) - gain a nationally recognised IT qualification.

 

Programme dates:

Ø    September 2015 - 7th, 8th and 9th

Ø    October 2015 - 19th, 20th and 21st

Deadline extended on Lincoln's Inn Prizes available to current Second year students

Lincoln's Inn announces new prizes designed to widen access to the Bar.

Up to five prizes, each of £1000 and free student membership of Lincoln's Inn, will be awarded at the end of the summer to students wanting to network with barristers in their last year of University.

To be eligible you must

• Be studying law at a non-Russell Group university such as the University of Chester
• Be about to start the final year of your studies for a qualifying law degree
• Not be a member of another Inn of Court and be able to join Lincoln's Inn
• Be able to demonstrate outstanding examination and assessment results.

Is this you? Your entry will depend on support of your University, identifying you as a high flier. Talk to your tutor about it and write to Lincoln's Inn telling them why you want one of these prizes. Give a copy of your letter to your tutor, and you will need to tell Lincoln's Inn who that is, so that they can get in touch with him or her.

Entries must be addressed to Education Department, The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, Treasury Office, London WC2A 3TL and received by 17 July 2015.

University of Law Springboard Programme

Please see below information on the University of Law Springboard Programme, in partnership with Aspiring Solicitors. This is a fantastic opportunity for any students looking to pursue a career in law and will offer invaluable advice and guidance on obtaining vacation schemes and training contracts.

The programme commences in June with sessions delivered by legal experts including former practising solicitors and recruitment managers, together with partners and senior associates responsible for graduate recruitment from some of the UK’s leading law firms. The events will take place at the University of Law’s London, Birmingham and Manchester centres and will offer insight, mentoring and skills coaching for up to 600 students looking to launch their career in the legal services profession.

The sessions will include targeted application and assessment advice, interview techniques, practical advice geared at developing overall professionalism and a commercial awareness session delivered by commercial awareness expert and author, Chris Stoakes.

A series of networking events will offer participants the opportunity to meet with professionals across the legal spectrum, boosting their career opportunities and putting them one step ahead of their competitors in the recruitment process. Law firms will also benefit from being the first to meet emerging talent and spot bright young legal stars of tomorrow before they enter the wider market.

 

The first events will take place at the ULaw’s centre in Manchester on 22 June 2015, at the Birmingham centre on 26 June 2015 and at the ULaw Moorgate centre in London on 30 June 2015.

Graduate Recruitment Fair Manchester 10 and 11 June 2015

The Graduate Recruitment Fair – jobs and further study fair

 

Graduating this summer and looking for a  job or postgraduate course?

 

Come along to the Graduate Recruitment Fair in Manchester on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 June 2015, 10.30am - 4.00pm, The Armitage Centre, Fallowfield, Manchester, M14 6HE. Graduates from any university welcome.

 

Hundreds of opportunities available including graduate jobs, voluntary positions and postgrad course places. Both local and national vacancies in a variety of sectors. Over 140 organisations will be exhibiting over the two days so attend on both days to see them all.

Win 1 of 5 training contract interviews at Harbottle & Lewis, a leading London Law firm

 The Law Society has just launched the 21^stCentury Law competition.  The closing date for entries is 23:59 on Tuesday 12 May 2015.

 

The competition is being organised by Harbottle & Lewis, a leading Technology, Media and Entertainment law firm, and Proceed, the portal for legal student and graduate careers. Two finalists will each win a week-long work placement at Harbottle & Lewis, where they’ll get first hand work experience and be closely mentored by Harbottle & Lewis lawyers, plus a guaranteed first round training contract interview. The three runners up will also receive a first round training contract interview. 

About the competition

The rules of the competition are simple. Candidates will be asked to answer one of two questions in no more than 500 words. You’ll need to demonstrate your intelligence, ability to identify key commercial and legal issues and provide practical solutions to identified problems. You’ll also need to complete a Proceed profile to ensure you meet the entry criteria. To be eligible to enter you will need to be studying or have studied law (please see the T&Cs on the competition site).

 The responses will be judged and independently reviewed and, based purely on merit, the 12 most outstanding eligible entries will be shortlisted. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to discuss their answer with a panel of judges comprising of one lawyer and a member of the HR department at Harbottle & Lewis and a Law Society representative. The two winners and three runners up will be notified by  20^th July.
